SSE reports busy summer with L-ACOUSTICS

SSE Hire has supplied an L-ACOUSTICS K1/KARA WST® line source system as part of a complete PA package for Blink 182's UK and Ireland arena tour this summer.  The first headline tour for more than eight years for Blink 182, who formed in San Diego in 1992, started at Birmingham's NIA, ending with two more intimate dates at Manchester Apollo and the O2 Academy in Brixton. For the arena dates, SSE Hire deployed an L-ACOUSTICS K1 system comprising 14 K1s and six KARAs per side, with an additional six KARAs making up a centre hang, and 16 KUDOs per side as side hangs. A total of 32 SB28 subs were also supplied, and at the larger 02 and MEN arenas, VDOSC cabinets provided a delay system. Amplification was via 48 LA8 amplified controllers.  “I know there was lots of planning and tons of time spent on getting this tour right,” says Blink 182's production manager, John Lafferty. “Well it was better then right. From the first day of production rehearsals everything was flawless. SSE’s gear, crew and experience was tops in my eyes, and it was much appreciated.”

SSE has also carried the first installation in the UK with L-ACOUSTICS’ new ARCS II constant curvature cabinets as the main PA system in a venue. ARCS II was installed into Nottingham’s Rescue Rooms complex of venues, which includes Rock City, Stealth and the Black Cherry Lounge.  The technical staff at Daybrook House Promotions, which owns the venue, were very enthusiastic about using SSE Audio Group and L'ACOUSTICS after working with the companies on an upgrade at Rock City in 2009. A demo of the new ARCS II with SB28 subs at an SSE Sales roadshow earlier this year sealed the deal. ARCS II were an obvious choice as the shape and size of the Rescue Rooms did not require a particularly long throw system, and it wasn’t possible to cover the balcony with the main PA in any scenario due to a low beam. Accordingly, a system of three ARCS II per side, with four SB28s to provide the necessary low end response, and three 12XTi coaxials as balcony fills, was deployed, and put through its paces at a DJ night in July. The system is powered by one LA4 and two LA8 amplified controllers, which also handle all system tuning. In addition, a PC at front of house runs LA Network Manager 2.0 to provide remote monitoring and control of the amplifiers.  “We were delighted to have the opportunity to complete another installation for DHP,” says SSE sales manager Alex Penn. “We look forward to a continuing relationship supporting existing DHP installations and helping them to develop their portfolio of venues across the UK.”

SSE Audio Group will be also showing the new L-ACOUSTICS ARCS WIFO (ARCS® WIDE and ARCS® FOCUS) systems on stand 1-F24 at this year’s PLASA show, being held from 9-12 September at London’s Earls Court. Interested parties can register in advance to see the latest products and take part in the brand new Professional Development Programme, a key feature of this year's PLASA comprising four days of free sessions in one of four new theatres on the show floor.  More information

There will be further opportunities to experience the new WIFO constant curvature WST® line source products on 4 October, when SSE is hosting a day of demos from 10am to 5pm at its headquarters in Redditch, UK. These will be shown alongside other L-ACOUSTICS products including KARA, KIVA, SB18, SB18M and coaxial speakers. The presentation is being run in collaboration with L-ACOUSTICS, and staff from both companies will be on hand to answer questions. The day will include listening sessions for constant curvature, variable curvature and coaxial technology, demos of rigging systems for ARCS, a tour of SSE’s facility and a light lunch.  More information
