L-Acoustics x Sounds Right: Making a Meaningful Impact by Showcasing the Elements of Music in Nature  L-Acoustics x Sounds Right: Making a Meaningful Impact by Showcasing the Element...

Elements of music and nature are intrinsically linked, with nature serving as an enduring source of inspiration for musical creation. Nature offers a rich tapestry of sounds that can be interpreted as music, such as birdsong, rustling leaves, and the soothing melody of water. These rhythmic and melodic sounds have a profound impact on human emotions, evoking both tranquility and inspiration. This connection fosters a deeper appreciation for the natural world.

Appreciating the inherent connection between music and nature, the Museum for the United Nations—UN Live—is collaborating with musician Brian Eno’s music industry climate and nature foundation, EarthPercent, to initiate a groundbreaking music project called Sounds Right. The primary objective of this initiative is to collaborate with a diverse group of musicians, creatives, nature sound recordists, environmental organizations, and global advocacy groups to record nature sounds that will elevate nature itself to the status of a top recording artist.

Earth’s ecosystem health heavily relies on biodiversity. It plays a pivotal role in climate regulation, providing clean water and air, and offering food and medicine. Biodiversity encompasses all living beings, from genes to plants, animals, fungi, microbes, and invertebrates. A biodiverse environment balances the intricate relationships between species within ecosystems. Biodiversity is critical for the well-being of both Earth and its inhabitants. Through Sounds Right, funds raised from nature’s streamed music will be placed back into nature conservation and biodiversity efforts.

L-Acoustics’ Partnership with Museum for the United Nations: NATURE as Artist

L-Acoustics appreciates the significance of this project, its innovative approach, and alignment with its own corporate and social responsibility initiatives. Therefore, L-Acoustics has partnered with Sounds Right on this important initiative. Together, they hope to facilitate profound conversations and specific upcoming initiatives that will lead to heightened environmental awareness and advocacy. UN Live and EarthPercent have achieved an extraordinary feat—registering NATURE as an artist on various music streaming platforms. This strategic move empowers NATURE to own its own nature sounds. Subsequently, ownership allows the organization to donate any residuals generated from streaming to environmental protection and sustainability initiatives. Sounds Right’s ultimate objective is to elevate NATURE to the status of a top 10 global artist.

According to L-Acoustics’ own Francoise Cardoso, Global Director of CSR, and Amber Mundinger, Global Director of Creative Engagement, “Sounds Right beautifully transforms nature into a powerful artist, inspiring deeper emotional and creative connections while advancing our commitment to sustainability. By elevating nature’s sounds and elements as a form of musical expression, we foster greater awareness and action for preserving biodiversity and ecosystem health. This initiative demonstrates how creative engagement and innovative financial mechanisms can work together to protect our planet’s vital ecosystems, ensuring that art and nature collaborate to create a lasting positive impact for future generations.”

Every Music Lover Can Make a Difference

By simply listening to a Sounds Right track, fans and music enthusiasts can actively contribute to environmental conservation. These tracks can comprise purely of nature sounds or have them incorporated into tracks by other artists. This innovative approach ensures that a portion of royalties generated from these tracks is directly allocated to high-impact conservation projects. This allocation will make a significant contribution to the preservation of nature.

Gabriel Smales, Global Program Director for Sounds Right at UN Live, says, “We asked a question: what if nature could speak and be credited through music? A year later, the answer is clear. Millions are listening and directing real funding to communities protecting the planet’s most vital ecosystems. Further, by collaborating with NATURE, artists from around the world are reminding us that music can do more than move us emotionally; it can enable us to protect what matters most.”

Indeed, Sounds Right possesses the potential to reach 600 million individuals and raise $40 million for nature conservation. The initiative encourages artists to create content that promotes biomonitoring and fosters broader environmental awareness.

Creating a Far-Reaching, Lasting Legacy

The Sounds Right initiative is not a singular event but the commencement of a broader movement to prioritize nature. With its inherent rhythm, regular track releases, and discussions about the intrinsic value of the elements of music and nature across the globe, Sounds Right is poised to make significant strides. By presenting nature as a musical entity and developing a credible and scalable innovative finance mechanism to capture music royalties and distribute them to impactful conservation projects globally, Sounds Right is paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious music industry.
