Beijing SMILING SAMOYED deploys L2 and L2D arrays for Mandopop artist’s vocal-focused performance at 19,000-capacity Wukesong Arena
BEIJING, China – March 2026 – Mandopop singer Fox Xia (Hu Xia) brought his “Those Years · Time Cinema” tour to Beijing’s 19,000-capacity Wukesong Arena in September 2025, backed by an L-Acoustics L Series concert sound system designed and deployed by Beijing SMILING SAMOYED, rental partner of L-Acoustics Certified Partner Rightway Audio Consultants (RAC). The concert merged nostalgic film themes with Xia’s vocal-focused performance style, requiring a system capable of delivering pristine vocal clarity throughout the arena while supporting the show’s cinematic production elements.
Fox Xia rose to prominence after winning Taiwan’s One Million Star competition in 2010 and has since built a career around soundtrack work for Chinese TV series, films, and games. His signature song “Those Years” for the film You Are the Apple of My Eye became a mega-hit across Asia, with over 100 million views on YouTube. The Beijing date of the “Those Years · Time Cinema” tour, which was originally scheduled for April but postponed due to weather, brought that catalogue to life in a highly visual production that transported audiences through decades of Chinese pop culture.

L Series Chosen for SPL and Coverage Precision
For a venue the size of Wukesong Arena that covers 63,000 square meters, comprehensive and consistent sound coverage is critical. The Beijing SMILING SAMOYED team deployed L-Acoustics new-generation L Series as both the main and side-fill system. The main left/right arrays each comprised three L2 and one L2D enclosure, with six KS28 subwoofers flown in cardioid configuration behind each main hang. Side-fill arrays mirrored this configuration with three L2 and one L2D per side. Six additional sets of two KS28 subwoofers were ground stacked in front of the stage in cardioid mode for low-frequency support, with two Kara II enclosures stacked atop each subwoofer cluster to provide front-fill coverage.
“L-Acoustics L Series was chosen for both its ultra-high SPL capability and its lightweight design,” explains Zheng Xiaofei, Sound Director. “At the same time, the reduced cabinet weight compared to conventional line array solutions enabled more discreet rigging within the venue while ensuring unobstructed sightlines to the stage.”

Panflex and Progressive Dispersion Deliver Targeted Coverage
Every detail of the system configuration was designed with the venue layout in mind. Upper modules of L2 used L-Acoustics Panflex technology to adjust horizontal coverage angles to target specific audience zones throughout the arena, directing sound energy exactly where needed and minimizing reflections off the arena walls. Low-frequency interference to the stage was minimized thanks to integrated cardioid of L Series.
A Kara II delay system compensated for acoustic delays in the 63,000-square-meter arena, ensuring a consistent listening experience for audience seating zones at the back of the venue. The combined output of the L2 arrays and Kara II delays delivered Fox Xia’s vocals clearly to every concertgoer.

Delivering Vocal Clarity for 19,000
“The L Series’ progressive ultra-dense line source technology delivered the clear, authentic vocal reproduction essential for Fox Xia’s performance,” concludes Zheng Xiaofei of SMILING SAMOYED. “By leveraging the system’s streamlined characteristics and Panflex precision, we ensured that every attendee experienced Fox Xia’s vocal with both clarity and emotional impact – making the concert not just a performance, but an immersive cinematic and musical event.”
