A New Dimension in Worship: North Point Community Church Deploys L-ISA and Source Intelligence
Operating at an immense scale, North Point Community Church ranks among the largest congregations in the United States. Since opening in 1999, the Alpharetta, Georgia, campus has served as the nerve center for an organization drawing a staggering 43,830 attendees weekly across eight regional locations. Managing crowds of that magnitude requires serious infrastructure, and for the church’s production team, delivering an engaging, clear, and uniformly consistent worship experience for every single seat in the house remains an absolute, uncompromising mandate.
The Challenge
In a venue of this immense scale, keeping the congregation’s attention firmly on the stage and the message is a significant hurdle. The Alpharetta auditorium features difficult room geometries, presenting a rectangular space that is more than 50 percent wider than it is deep. This extreme width is a natural enemy of most conventional left-right PA systems, which inevitably struggle to provide uniform spatial coverage across such broad seating areas. Furthermore, the modern worship format introduces an active, acoustically complex stage setup featuring multiple vocalists, a full band, and headset microphones operating directly in front of the loudspeakers. This high-energy environment often leads to unwanted stage noise, drum bleed into vocal mics, and persistent feedback risks, making a clear, distraction-free mix a rather moving target.
The Solution
To resolve these acoustic hurdles, North Point integrated an L-Acoustics L-ISA Hyperreal Sound system. The integration firm Clark, a provider for the church since 1999, spearheaded the deployment after proving the concept through a highly effective hands-on demonstration. Clark brought the church’s production team to a similar-sized Dallas venue, equipping them with a DiGiCo console matching their own Quantum5, and allowing their front-of-house engineers to mix familiar tracks in an immersive environment. The resulting spatial consistency across the entire room quickly convinced the North Point team to proceed.
The finalized main Scene system utilizes five hangs of L2D enclosures, flanked by Extension arrays of A10i Focus, and supported by a robust deployment of subwoofers and fill speakers spanning the K, A, and X Series. Crucially, North Point also became the first house of worship worldwide to implement L-Acoustics Source Intelligence, a proprietary real-time voice-separation application running on the L-ISA Processor II. Fully integrated into the workflow, this software requires no threshold setting, no ongoing adjustment, and no changes to the existing console routing. It operates seamlessly with less than 8.5 ms of end-to-end latency, ensuring that automation and snapshot changes never affect system timing, while redundancy is maintained through the processor platform.
The Result
The payoff is immediate, both geometrically and sonically. By dropping over 80 percent of the seats squarely into the L-ISA immersive sweet spot, the design requires only a handful of fills to cover the room’s extreme outer edges. The spatialization applies equally to spoken word and live music, effectively erasing the perceived distance between the platform and the congregation. Instead of the mix audibly projecting from a traditional stereo line array, vocals and instrumentation are localized directly to their physical positions on the stage. It shifts the audience’s attention away from the speaker arrays, anchoring their focus exactly where it belongs: the message.
At the front-of-house position, Source Intelligence handles the heavy lifting of a loud stage. By continuously tracking the primary voice and stripping out room reverb, PA bleed, and stage noise, the software delivers a remarkably clean vocal. It mitigates drum bleed in the vocal mics and buys the engineers significantly more gain before feedback on the headsets, all without altering the input’s native tonality. Ultimately, the church walked away with a breathtaking sound system that redefines how visitors experience connection in the space.
