Premium Sound for Premium Royal Caribbean Live Music Club

Oasis of the Seas, a cruise ship operated by Royal Caribbean International, is the first of its class, launching a vacation revolution with the world’s largest passenger ships. The original Oasis of the Seas first set sail in 2007 and was a gamechanger for the industry. Then in 2019, the cruise line introduced new thrills and fun with a brand new reimagined ship full of more dining options, ways to elevate the night, and buzzworthy new spots. Among those new spots aboard the new Oasis of the Seas is the Music Hall: a premium live music venue hosting the industry’s best cover bands. Purposely designed for live music, the venue has unobstructed views of a raised main stage, creating optimal views from any area, including the balconies on the mezzanine level.

The Challenge

A state-of-the-art sound system is integral to this type of venue. With that in mind, Christopher Vlassopulos, Manager of Newbuilding Sound & Light, approached L-Acoustics to create a unique design that would meet the required flexibility and audio quality for this challenging project. Several outfitting and installation challenges in the Music Hall needed careful consideration and flexibility to meet the space’s requirements. With similar venues on other vessels and Royal Caribbean’s reputation for continuously improving entertainment offerings, the expectation was to raise the bar again for guests and complete the total package with excellent sound design as the fundamental criteria.

The Solution

Kiva II was considered the perfect solution due to its compact size, high output, and WST technology, ensuring total and continuous coverage throughout the venue. The system’s simplicity, ease of service, and lightweight enclosures made it ideal for installing on a cruise ship – especially given the tight time frame of installation while the ship was in dry dock.

The Result

The Kiva II system provided a visually discrete sound system with excellent coverage throughout the venue. Guests can enjoy clear sightlines and crystal clear audio at every seat, ensuring an intimate environment to enjoy live music on board. Simultaneously, high-impact sound on the dance floor caters to guests who want to be up close and personal with the performance. Kiva II elevates the Music Hall atmosphere for guests on board the newly reimagined Oasis of the Seas.
