Rightway Audio Consultants designs massive K Series, L Series and X Series system to bring intimate musical storytelling to 60,000 fans at Beijing’s National Stadium

BEIJING, China – September 2025 – Rightway Audio Consultants delivered an exceptional concert sound system design for Singaporean singer-songwriter Sun Yanzi’s milestone “AUT NIHILO” concert at China’s National Stadium, marking both the beloved artist’s debut at the legendary venue and her 25th anniversary celebration. The massive concert sound system was deployed by the MRT (Shanghai Rentian) company, and featured nearly 300 L-Acoustics K Series, L Series, and X Series speakers in a sophisticated multi-zone configuration, ensuring Sun Yanzi’s intimate musical storytelling reached every corner of Beijing’s 60,000-capacity stadium with remarkable clarity and emotional impact.

Mandarin Pop Icon Brings Quarter-Century Milestone to China’s Premier Venue
Sun Yanzi, also known as Stefanie Sun, has captivated millions of fans across Asia as one of the most beloved and influential Mandarin pop artists of her generation. With over 30 million albums sold worldwide and numerous awards including Golden Melody Awards, she stands as a defining voice in contemporary Asian music. Her “AUT NIHILO” tour—the Latin phrase meaning “or nothing at all”—represents a poetic and romantic artistic statement befitting her illustrious 25-year musical journey. The concert in Beijing served as the centerpiece of this anniversary celebration, bringing her distinctive vocal artistry and intricate musical arrangements to one of China’s most prestigious venues.

Renowned as the site of the 2008 Summer Olympics, China’s National Stadium, nicknamed the ‘Bird’s Nest’, presented significant acoustic challenges due to its vast 60,000-capacity and complex architecture. The venue required precision engineering to ensure Sun Yanzi’s nuanced vocals and delicate instrumental textures could maintain their intimacy while reaching every audience member with clarity and emotional impact.

K Series and L Series Integration Solves Complex Stadium Coverage Challenges
The concert sound system designed by L-Acoustics Certified Partner Rightway Audio Consultants (RAC) showcased L-Acoustics’ full product ecosystem working in harmony to overcome the demanding acoustic requirements of the massive stadium environment. The system’s sophisticated multi-zone design delivered uniform coverage across all seating areas while preserving the intimacy essential to Sun Yanzi’s musical storytelling.

“Achieving powerful sound pressure to keep 60,000 concertgoers fully engaged while preserving the subtlety of Sun Yanzi’s vocals was our primary objective,” explains Vincent Zhou, Technical Director at RAC. “The main L-Acoustics K2 system, with its Panflex™ technology, delivered powerful SPL and precise coverage to faithfully reproduce vocal nuances and instrumental layers in a stunning live audio experience.”

The venue’s challenging geometry necessitated innovative solutions to provide optimal coverage while accommodating rotating stage screens and thrust stage elements that could potentially obstruct sightlines and sound paths.

Strategic L Series Deployment Maximizes Power While Preserving Sightlines
The main PA system deployment by the MRT (Shanghai Rentian) company featured two hangs comprising 12 K1 over four K2 speakers per side, with eight KS28 subwoofers behind each array for extended low-frequency response. Front-fill utilized two sets of three Kara II boxes at the stage front, supported by six sets of four KS28 subwoofers in cardioid configuration on either side.

Side-fill coverage employed two hangs of eight K2 boxes flown on either side of the stage. The extensive delay-fill systems included 36 K2, 10 L2, and six L2D speakers strategically positioned throughout the arena, plus 10 Kara II speakers and two K2 enclosures at key ground positions.

The deployment of L Series speakers proved particularly valuable for delay-fill applications. “The L2 speakers delivered remarkable efficiency,” notes Zhao Haozhi, Vice Manager of Product Department at RAC. “With a single L Series unit achieving up to 155dB SPL—equivalent to four K2 speakers—while being 46% smaller and 40% lighter, our team could deploy components throughout the arena without interfering with audience sightlines. This combination of power and compact size ensured uniform sound quality across the entire venue.”

X Series Precision Addresses Venue-Specific Acoustic Challenges
RAC’s system design saw the deployment of six X15 HiQ speakers to address specific acoustic obstacles. Two X15 HiQ speakers at the front of the thrust stage provided crucial high-frequency energy, while four additional X15 HiQ speakers compensated for sound coverage blocked by the venue’s rotating display screens in bleacher seating sections.

The K2 main PA, utilizing Panflex™ technology, proved essential for precise coverage of main audience areas while minimizing stage interference. Combined with precise delay adjustments across the various system zones, the design delivered natural sound reproduction that perfectly conveyed Sun Yanzi’s vocal subtleties and emotional nuances to every listener.

Stadium-Scale System Elevates Intimate Musical Performance

Sun Yanzi’s concert began with the stadium’s large screen displaying the evening’s sunset time. As golden light bathed the stage, the celebrated performer opened with her distinctive voice, instantly captivating the audience. The Beijing-exclusive performance of “Yintai” sparked a massive sing-along, demonstrating the system’s ability to support both intimate musical moments and high-energy crowd participation.

“As Sun Yanzi celebrated her 25-year milestone, RAC and L-Acoustics delivered the technical foundation to share this historic musical moment with unprecedented clarity and emotional impact,” concludes Vincent Zhou. “The L-Acoustics system reproduced not only Sun’s music and vocals but also the emotions embedded within, creating a live concert experience that allowed all 60,000 attendees to connect completely with her musical world.”
