The Team

L-Acoustics Brings the Magic of Sound to Terra Solis, Tomorrowland’s Dubai Destination

Nestled amidst the picturesque Arabian sand dunes just 40 minutes outside Dubai, Terra Solis is the latest and most unique desert destination, unveiled by Tomorrowland, one of the world’s most iconic electro music festivals. This sprawling oriental-chic desert oasis, covering 371,000 square meters, seamlessly blends music, entertainment, and gastronomic delights. It boasts luxurious accommodation, a dazzling swimming pool, a restaurant, a bar, and a shisha lounge, all infused with quintessential Tomorrowland elements. Designed as a multi-purpose venue, Terra Solis required a sound system capable of delivering world-class audio quality across its diverse entertainment spaces, from large-scale concerts to intimate evening ambiance.

The Challenge

The primary challenge for the Terra Solis project was to implement a sound system that could meet Tomorrowland’s high standards for audio quality across a vast and uniquely designed desert venue. The venue’s circular amphitheater, featuring a man-made sand dune at one end, presented particular acoustic challenges, creating tricky reflections that required precise measurements and system optimization. Logistically, the remote desert location also presented challenges for installation, necessitating meticulous planning to transport and set up the equipment efficiently. The goal was to ensure flawless sound distribution and an unparalleled sensory journey for every visitor, regardless of their location within the expansive complex or the type of event being hosted.

The Solution

Working in close partnership with L-Acoustics’ Dubai distributor, Levels AV meticulously designed and delivered a bespoke L-Acoustics K Series audio system. For the central pool area, which transitions from a daytime leisure spot to an evening entertainment hub, four ground-stacked L-Acoustics K3 with two KS28 subwoofers were strategically installed, controlled by LA12X amplified controllers. This setup was designed for flexibility, allowing the technical team to expand with additional K3 and KS28 boxes for larger concerts and events. To ensure continuous, evenly distributed audio coverage in the bar area, particularly as entertainment shifted to the central DJ booth in the evenings, Syva, Syva Low, and SB15m subs were positioned behind the DJ booth. Extensive on-site testing was conducted to address the unique acoustic challenges presented by the amphitheater’s design, including adjusting speaker positions and optimizing system output to counter reflections caused by the sand dune, ultimately achieving optimal sound quality.

The Result

The L-Acoustics K Series system has transformed Terra Solis into a truly immersive sonic experience, delivering the manufacturer’s iconic sound signature across the venue. The versatile design successfully caters to all occasions, from daily pool area ambiance to large-scale, Tomorrowland-style events. The system’s ability to overcome the unique acoustic challenges of the desert environment has resulted in flawless sound distribution throughout the complex. This successful implementation has not only delighted Tomorrowland’s partners but has also elevated Levels AV’s profile, paving the way for numerous significant projects in the Middle East. The venue’s team now plans to host around eight major Tomorrowland-style events annually, solidifying an ongoing partnership that includes opportunities for system enhancements with L-Acoustics rental solutions.
