KIVA - Modular WST Line Source
KIVA delivers a considerable number of improvements over the traditional sound reinforcement approach particularly with regard to the intelligibility and overall clarity of vocal material. Utilizing WST® technology KIVA (although compact by design) allows even coverage of extremely large acoustic environments where the number of elements (height of the array) constitutes the main factor in establishing the system throw, coverage pattern, and directivity control parameters. With a fixed horizontal directivity of 100° and a vertical inter-element variation up to 15°, KIVA is fully configurable to match any audience geometry. Utilizing the unrivalled characteristics of WST®, KIVA delivers clarity, precision, and a unique near field proximity effect offering the audience an incomparable listening experience. Packaged in a lightweight and compact enclosure in addition to a virtually invisible captive rigging system, KIVA combines extremely quick set up and system integration with significant savings on storage and handling logistics. Than to its compact format KIVA complies with rigging and architectural limitations in theatres, performing art centres, concert halls, convention centres, sport facilities, and TV/Broadcast studios. The LA4 amplified controller preset library delivers an extremely advanced and precise drive system for KIVA. A wide range of system configurations are available for the sound designer and system engineer allowing high level of creative freedom. Additional features include an intelligent 2-way transducer protection L-DRIVE circuit (PEAK and RMS limiting) and a unique Array Morphing EQ interface allowing the engineer to quickly adjust the tonal balance of the system to reach a reference curve or ensure consistency of the system sonic signature with multiple arrays of differing size. A single LA4 can drive up to 8 KIVA cabinets in a full range preset configuration for lead instruments, vocals and flat LF contour material. The KIVA system’s bandwidth can also be extended by combining 6 KIVA and 2 KILO on a single LA4 as a 2-way system for flat LF contour program material, or as a 3-way system with SB18 for more demanding LF contour applications. KIVA can be acoustically and mechanically modelled with SOUNDVISION 3D simulation software. In addition, LA NETWORK MANAGER software offers remote control and monitoring of amplified controllers via a user-friendly and intuitive graphic interface. The design of complex and sophisticated systems is made possible by the integration of an Ethernet-based network capability of up to 253 units. |

L-ACOUSTICS® pioneered the field of modern line source array as early as 1993 with the introduction of Wavefront Sculpture Technology on the legendary V-DOSC® system. Based on physical rules developed by Heil and Urban (AES 1992) the WST® theory defines five criteria for design and use of true line source arrays. At the heart of Wavefront Sculpture Technology is the internationally-patented DOSC® waveguide, which morphs the spherical wavefront of the HF driver into a cylindrical, isophasic wave In combination with WST®, coplanar symmetry - the equivalent of coaxial assembly for HF, MF and LF drivers in vertical arrays - provides a coherent wavefront over the entire horizontal coverage at all frequencies. This behaves as if the sound was radiated by a single, continuous and articulated ribbon. |

Any line source featuring L-ACOUSTICS® elements respects the coplanar symmetry and all WST® criteria on the entire sonic spectrum. This allows an exceptionally coherent sonic signature in very long throw applications, beyond the limits of other systems. L-ACOUSTICS® has been designing reference line array systems for more than 15 years. ARCS® is a WST®-based constant curvature line source and can be incrementally arrayed in the horizontal or vertical planes to match any audience geometry. The system is optimized for medium-throw applications in theatres as a main stereo system or a radial central cluster. Its medium contour allows it to be implemented as a main FOH system in touring applications or as a fill system sonically compatible with large format line sources. |

“Once the KIVA system had gone in, I kept thinking that I was hearing frequencies that we hadn't heard in a while. We’re now getting a much more accurate and honest representation of what the band is actually playing, which is awesome. It sounds amazing.” | ![]() |
