Context


The Team

Concealed Clarity: An Unobtrusive S Series Deployment at St. Andrew Methodist

Nestled in the northwest corner of St. Andrew Methodist Church’s campus, Hasley Chapel is a picturesque worship space overlooking a tranquil pond and wooded area. Designed by Dallas-based architectural firm GFF, the venue hosts traditional worship services, weddings, memorials, and small conferences. It features a modern take on traditional design, prioritizing both pristine visual and aural aesthetics.  

The Challenge

The chapel’s intimate footprint is deceptively complex from an acoustic standpoint. The room features a multitude of highly reflective surfaces, including a glass wall behind the stage, stone side walls punctuated by windows, and a high-pitched roof. The primary hurdle was designing a system that offered precise coverage and ideal acoustic performance without detracting from the architect’s meticulous visual design. The installation team had to navigate these reflective boundaries without the luxury of traditional sound dampening treatments.  

The Solution

Clear ProAV tackled the room’s reflective nature by deploying an L-Acoustics S Series system, relying heavily on Soundvision modeling software to dictate precise loudspeaker placement and mitigate early reflections. The team specified two collinear Syva enclosures as the main left and right components, completely RAL color-matched to blend into the gray stone walls.  

To support the main arrays, six ultra-compact X4i coaxial enclosures serve as front-fills, hidden behind custom screens within the stage steps. Low-frequency extension is handled by a pair of Syva Sub and Syva Low enclosures on each side of the stage, while two X8 enclosures are discreetly mounted among the balcony lighting fixtures to provide dedicated coverage for the upper tier. The entire ecosystem is driven by a single LA7.16i amplified controller. 

The Result

The resulting audio infrastructure is visually unobtrusive and acoustically precise. By coordinating with the architect to angle the balcony glass slightly to avoid rear-wall bounce, the system achieves exceptional clarity without energizing the room’s reflective surfaces. The S Series deployment provides substantial output and headroom, yielding a highly natural sound profile that complements the room’s innate acoustic properties rather than fighting them.

Project photos

The chapel has pretty decent acoustics, and can be used without reinforcement, but the Syva system adds a nice extra bit of clarity and presence, helping everything feel even more natural. It can be used quite sparingly to make the room sound nicer, but it’s also great when we push it as well. Everything is easy to use and sounds beautiful. Clear ProAV did a great job for us in there, and L-Acoustics clearly makes a superior speaker.
