The L1 System

L1 represents our boldest step forward in large-format sound, engineered for the world’s most demanding stages. From stadium tours, arena productions, the largest festivals, and prestigious venues, it delivers the scale and power these environments require while preserving the tonal integrity that connects audiences through the best shared sound at any scale. With a new level of control and system efficiency, L1 ensures consistent performance and enables repeatable excellence, show after show.

The L1 system comprises L1 and L1D, acoustically identical enclosures that differ in their progressive curvature. From top to bottom, the system is built on the same core element, ensuring full acoustic consistency across the entire line. L1 is designed for long-throw performance while L1D serves as the final element, extending the coverage to the near field and completing the array’s vertical profile.

Meet The One

The Best Sound

L1 is the most powerful system ever developed in its class, setting a new reference across every meaningful metric: SPL, SPL/m, SPL/kg, and SPL/m2. Power at this level is not defined by loudness alone. It is the ability to maintain tonal integrity and impact at scale. Whether operating at moderate or extreme levels, L1 delivers consistent energy, clarity, and balance across the entire audience.

The Most Control

L1 delivers comprehensive three-dimensional pattern control, directing sound exactly where it is needed. In the horizontal plane, coverage adapts to the venue’s dimensions with controlled directivity, keeping energy focused on the audience while minimizing spill in unwanted areas. In the vertical plane, coverage remains consistent from the front rows to the far field, preserving tonal balance and clarity across the entire listening area.

The Highest Efficiency

Integrated auto-lock rigging enables fast, safe, and error-free assembly without external hardware, reducing setup time up to a third compared to traditional line-source systems. LA7.16 amplified controller drives each enclosure individually; this one-to-one architecture maximizes performance while optimizing cable management. The result of this is streamlined deployment and system management, ensuring consistent performance show after show.

The Magic Behind L1

Progressive Ultra-Dense Line Source (PULS) Technology

PULS technology maximizes the active radiating factor (ARF) by integrating a high density of transducers into an ultra-dense configuration, achieving 100% ARF per box and up to 98% across a full array.
This makes full use of the enclosure surface, creating the best acoustic starting point, further enhanced by the high-resolution LA7.16 platform, which drives each acoustic element of L1 individually with precision. The combination of high ARF, processing granularity, and integrated cardioid enables precise control of energy across the vertical and horizontal planes over the full frequency range.

Panflex

Panflex, a patented technology, provides precise, tool-free adjustment of horizontal coverage through mechanically integrated fins. By adapting on-site directivity to match specific audience geometries, a single enclosure provides four distinct coverage patterns, effectively eliminating the need for multiple fixed-box inventories. For L1, this includes 70°, 90°, and 80° asymmetrical configurations, while L1D expands to 70°, 110°, and 90° options. This versatility simplifies system design, reduces transport requirements, and maximizes asset utilization.

Beyond Cardioid

The patented cardioid design of the L Series is based on the precise driver alignment and acoustic control. In L1, four front-firing 15” LF drivers work with two side-mounted 18” cardioid drivers to project high-impact energy forward while achieving 18 dB attenuation behind. (25-250 Hz)
This topology preserves strong frontal impact while reducing unwanted energy where needed. Users can select among cardioid, supercardioid, and enhanced side-rejection presets to adapt the system’s behavior to any environment.

 - Beyond Cardioid

Autofilter

Autofilter is a full-range optimization tool that shapes the energy
distribution across the array to ensure consistent tonal balance and coverage for every listener. Utilizing FIR filters to achieve independent control of magnitude and phase, it delivers predictable, coherent system behavior from the front row to the last. With L1, Autofilter now
extends this control into the lowest frequencies, enabling effective beam control down to 20 Hz without additional latency. The result is consistent, balanced energy across the full spectrum with smoother coverage, all integrated into the standard workflow with a single click.

LA7.16 Amplified Controller

One LA7.16 amplified controller drives one L1 enclosure, delivering powerful, high-resolution DSPs through 16 output channels. This degree of discretization of processing and amplification provides maximum vertical granularity of control at the individual acoustic element level. Enabling precise forward energy management and rear cancellation in the LF, together with refined tonal balance and directivity in the MF and HF ranges. In combination with Autofilter, this foundation produces uniform frequency response and coverage across the audience space regardless of array length or configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions

L1 is a native component of the L-Acoustics ecosystem, designed for seamless integration with our entire hardware and software catalog. It features full mechanical and acoustic compatibility with the CS1 subwoofer, enabling unified deployments for maximum low-frequency impact. For broader applications, L1 works in concert with L2 or K Series enclosures to serve as delays, sidefills, or distributed coverage. This shared architecture, centered on the LA7.16 amplified controller, simplifies system design, streamlines cabling, and ensures absolute tonal consistency across even the most complex deployments.

To meet its specific performance benchmarks, L1 is engineered as a unified system architecture optimized exclusively for the LA7.16 amplified controller. The system relies on high-resolution processing across discrete channels, allowing for individual control of every acoustic element within the enclosure. This granular level of command is essential for the precision, efficiency, and energy management that define the L1. Using any other amplification would compromise the tonal integrity and predictive behavior that are the hallmarks of our engineering.

L1 represents the evolution of that legacy, delivering a significant leap in power density. In practice, an L1 array can be approximately 30% shorter than an equivalent K1 deployment while delivering superior power and headroom. This allows productions to achieve flagship-level performance with a significantly smaller footprint, reduced weight, and optimized logistics. For a detailed comparison, refer to the Soundvision use cases available in the download section.

When using the L1 BUMP, up to ten L1 elements can be flown in a single array, typically configured with nine L1 enclosures and 1 L1D terminal element to ensure ideal progressive curvature. This configuration represents a milestone in output-to-weight ratios; a ten-element L1 array delivers performance that exceeds that of a thirty-element K1 deployment. This achievement enables a level of scale and power previously unattainable within these mechanical and structural constraints.

L1 achieves up to 18 dB of broadband rejection between 32 Hz and 250 Hz and more than 26 dB of rejection below 80 Hz behind the array. This level of attenuation ensures a clean stage environment, minimizes off-site impact, and maintains the temporal integrity and high-resolution clarity required in the audience area.
