Strategic Professional Sound Investment Drives Genre Versatility<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

L-Acoustics certified partner Bestec Audio completed the comprehensive audio upgrade this past spring, reflecting Billboard Live Osaka’s commitment to maintaining the highest industry standards. As one of the world’s most discerning live music brands, the venue sought a sound system that would match their premium reputation and meet the expectations of today’s top-tier touring artists. The venue needed to deliver the exceptional audio quality that both performers and audiences expect from the Billboard Live experience across an increasingly diverse roster of artists spanning jazz, R&B, pop, rock, and electronic music.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We want to attract a wider range of customers to Billboard Live than ever before,” explains Takuro Okuno, Artist Relations Production Manager from the Planning & Production Department of Billboard Business Headquarters, Japan. “To achieve this, we require a variety of performing artists in our weekly program, and we felt that L-Acoustics K3 was essential to hosting such artists. Billboard Live is home to not only renowned artists, but also renowned sound engineers, so we wanted to welcome them with the best possible system.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The selection of L-Acoustics K3 came after Okuno and his team experienced the system’s superior sound quality firsthand at a speaker demonstration during the annual Inter BEE media production trade event in 2022. For Okuno and his colleague, Booking Producer Masahiro Shibasaki, integrating cutting-edge sound technology represented far more than a technical upgrade\u2014it was a strategic investment to maintain their venue’s reputation as one of Japan’s essential live music destinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We received various sound system proposals from other companies, but considering that we would be using the system for the next 10 years or more, we decided that the latest innovation in live audio solutions that Bestec Audio presented would serve our needs best,” explains Shibasaki. “When we looked at the riders for touring artists from around the world, L-Acoustics is always listed as the preferred choice.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Precision Installation Delivers Maximum Impact<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The final installation features a main left-right hang of six L-Acoustics K3<\/a> with three KS21<\/a> subwoofers per side. Out-fill coverage consists of one A10 Focus<\/a> and two A10 Wide<\/a> per side, while center-fill is provided by two X8<\/a> speaker enclosures. Four LA12X<\/a> and three LA4X<\/a> amplified controllers power the entire system. Bestec were able to reuse existing rigging points for installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Industry Validation Through Elite Listening Event<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following installation, Billboard Live Osaka unveiled the new K3 system through an exclusive listening party featuring special guests music producer and arranger Seiji Kameda, along with DJ and music producers Ryota Nozaki and Chaki Zulu\u2014some of Japan’s most accomplished and internationally recognized sound and music creators. The free public event drew a capacity crowd, allowing music fans to experience the venue’s dramatically enhanced audio capabilities powered by K3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“All three are accomplished musicians, and in their own right, regarded as some of the top track makers and producers in Japan,” explains Shibasaki. “With their involvement in creating a wide range of music, from rock and pop to jazz and electronic music to hip hop, they were the ideal musical guests to present on the K3 system, and to appeal to a wide range of music fans, from the younger generation to the older appreciators.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Performance Results Exceed All Expectations<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Billboard Live Osaka team reports dramatic improvements across all audio parameters with the new K3 installation. Low frequencies, which had been problematic on the previous system, now reproduce with exceptional clarity while the subtle nuances of each artist’s performance are conveyed with remarkable precision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Until now, there were some areas where the sound wasn’t reaching all the way to the back of the venue,” reveals Shibasaki. “Now, the coverage area has expanded, and we’re able to hear the same quality sound no matter where we are in the space. Low frequencies are also delivered with a richer feel.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sunphonix Osaka mix engineers Ayaka Tanaka and Ayaka Mizuta, who attended the listening event, confirm the significant technical improvements achieved with the system upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“By switching to L-Acoustics, the overall acoustic performance has improved,” says Ms. Tanaka. “The K3 speakers reproduce solid bass even on their own, and the addition of the subwoofer has made it possible to reproduce low frequencies with even more power. What’s more, we’ve heard several guest operators and engineers comment that it is easier to work with, which has increased the overall sense of confidence in the main PA.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n
