NELSPRUIT, South Africa – August 2025<\/strong>\u00a0– MGG Productions has successfully deployed its newly-acquired L-Acoustics K2 professional sound system at the Toyota Innibos Lowveld National Arts Festival, marking a significant milestone as the company celebrates its 25th anniversary year. The strategic investment in K2 technology represents MGG’s continued growth and positions them to take on increasingly important projects across diverse market sectors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its inception in 2004, Toyota Innibos has evolved into one of South Africa’s most significant cultural celebrations. This year’s 3-day festival welcomed 78,800 attendees across a 9,500 m\u00b2 audience area, featuring eight theatre productions, ten music and lifestyle shows, and performances by over 35 of South Africa’s top artists. The festival generates an estimated R80-100 million economic impact for the local Lowveld economy, cementing Innibos as both a cultural cornerstone and major economic driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L-Acoustics K2 Investment Enhances MGG’s Capabilities<\/strong>
MGG Productions, one of South Africa’s most respected technical suppliers, acquired its K2 system through L-Acoustics Certified Provider Distributor DWR Distribution. The system acquisition, which began with discussions at ISE in February, was delivered in time for the festival deployment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Soundvision Helps Tackle Complex Venue Challenges<\/strong>
For this year’s festival, MGG faced the complex challenge of delivering pristine audio coverage across the venue’s challenging layout at Ho\u00ebrskool Bergvlam. Having provided audio services for Innibos for several years, MGG has built a deep understanding of the event’s requirements and audience expectations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The venue presents unique acoustic challenges,” explains Dean Parker, MGG’s Head of Audio. “Despite being situated on a sports field, the stage angle combined with off-axis grandstand, multiple VIP areas and surrounding tents, demanded a sophisticated approach to sound distribution, with complex coverage requirements across the entire audience area.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The system design phase leveraged L-Acoustics Soundvision software for venue modelling and coverage optimisation. Parker’s team imported the venue layout and stage configuration, then used the software’s prediction capabilities to address the complex acoustic challenges. The software proved particularly valuable for assigning amplifiers, loading FIR filters, and making real-time adjustments during the event setup.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

K2 and V-DOSC Systems Unite for Comprehensive Coverage<\/strong>
MGG deployed a comprehensive L-Acoustics sound system featuring L\/R hangs of 12 K2<\/a> enclosures with three Kara II<\/a> down-fill speakers per side. Behind the main arrays, ten SB18<\/a> subwoofers were flown in two side-by-side hangs of five units each. Out-fill coverage was provided by nine legendary V-DOSC enclosures per side with three dV-DOSC down-fill units, supplied by Gearhouse South Africa, they were a testament to the remarkable longevity and sustainable quality of this pioneering line array technology, that continues to deliver exceptional performance at major festivals more than 30 years after its introduction. The low-frequency foundation consisted of a delay arc of 24 KS28<\/a> subwoofers in 12 stacks of two units. Three delay towers of Kara II\u2014configured with six, six, and nine enclosures respectively\u2014ensured consistent coverage throughout the expansive audience area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LS10 and P1 Networking Streamlines Operations<\/strong>
The system featured advanced networking capabilities through LS10<\/a> switches and P1<\/a> processors, providing full Milan-AVB redundancy and significantly streamlining setup procedures. This network-based approach required only power and network connections for each amplifier location, eliminating the need for traditional AES\/EBU or analog cabling infrastructure,\u00a0making the installation more cost-effective, quicker, and more streamlined than conventional approaches.\u00a0The integration of SFP modules in the LS10 switches enabled fibre-optic connections to LA-RAK amplified controllers positioned on either side of the stage, creating a robust, redundant infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The K2 system delivers exceptional performance throughout the entire production process,” Parker notes. “From rigging through to live mixing, the system consistently supports our objectives. The integrated networking with LS10 switches and P1 processors significantly reduces setup time and complexity.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Seamless Performance Despite Logistical Challenges<\/strong>
Load-in presented unexpected challenges when larger transport vehicles were prohibited from accessing the grassed area in front of the stage. However, L-Acoustics’ intelligent transport casing and stacking system proved its worth, enabling efficient deployment despite the logistical constraints. The entire PA system was operational within a single day, with only minor delays related to tower positioning rather than the core system installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The technical crew, comprising experienced L-Acoustics users, found the system’s operation seamless throughout the event. Front-of-house engineer Murray Lubbe, who is also involved in the festival organisation, consistently praised the L-Acoustics system performance. The Milan-AVB networking capabilities proved particularly valuable, with the fibre-optic infrastructure providing stable, high-quality audio distribution across the extensive venue layout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The deployment also benefited from support by DWR Distribution, L-Acoustics South African distributor, who provided on-site expertise through Solutions Architect Kyle Freemantle. This collaboration ensured optimal system configuration and provided valuable knowledge transfer to the MGG team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Our experience with L-Acoustics systems at this festival has consistently exceeded expectations,” Parker reflects. “The decision to deploy our new K2 investment for Innibos was straightforward given the system’s proven track record at this venue.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The K2 system’s compatibility with MGG’s existing Kara inventory provides operational flexibility, allowing seamless integration across various applications from large-format festivals to corporate events and sporting venues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
