L-ISA Technology Elevates China’s Live Music Experience<\/strong><\/strong><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

1919LIVEHOUSE is a magnet for music lovers and a vital platform for both established and emerging artists. This spring, the venue took a bold step forward by upgrading its 2024-installed L-Acoustics Kara professional sound system to L-ISA immersive audio technology, working with L-Acoustics Certified Provider Distributor Rightway Audio Consultants (RAC) to create something unprecedented in China’s concert landscape.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“China has an incredibly dynamic and creative music scene, with artists constantly pushing boundaries and exploring new forms of expression,” explains Hu Hu, Founder of 1919LIVEHOUSE. “By introducing L-ISA, we’re giving these artists a completely new canvas to work with\u2014one that transforms how audiences experience live music.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The upgrade positions 1919LIVEHOUSE as a unique concert space that is also a creative laboratory where artists can experiment with spatial audio design, offering audiences something they simply cannot experience anywhere else in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Technical Innovation Meets Artistic Vision<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The permanent L-ISA<\/a> configuration comprises a scene system of five hangs of three A15 Focus<\/a> and one A15 Wide<\/a> each, complemented by four KS28<\/a> and four SB18<\/a> subwoofers for extended low-frequency response. A surround system consists of seven X12<\/a> boxes, while six X12 boxes make up an overhead system. Front-fill is covered by 10 Kara II<\/a> enclosures, with rear-fill handled by two X8<\/a> speakers. Musicians on stage receive clear foldback from eight X12 monitors. The entire system configuration is powered by a combination of LA7.16i<\/a>, LA12X<\/a> and LA4X<\/a> amplified controllers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Unlike traditional stereo systems that create sound “in front of you,” L-ISA technology places listeners “inside the music,” with full 360-degree immersion including overhead space. This creates unprecedented opportunities for artists to design truly three-dimensional sonic experiences.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Artists Embrace New Creative Possibilities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The venue’s inaugural L-ISA performance in May featured established local bands More Feel and Electric Cherry, who demonstrated the technology’s creative potential by reimagining their familiar melodies through innovative spatial audio arrangements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

More Feel’s composer and producer Ouyang Xuntao, who had previously experienced L-ISA at a Re-TROS concert in Nanjing, approached the 1919LIVEHOUSE performance with what he calls an “immersive audio mindset.” For the show, he designed a completely new intro utilizing L-ISA’s capabilities to create dreamlike soundscapes, with surround-sweeping percussion immediately drawing audiences into a three-dimensional audio environment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I’ve had so many ideas on how to demonstrate concepts from recorded songs in a live setting, but I struggled to find a sound system that could truly match them,” explains Ouyang. “L-ISA gives us the tools to place atmospheric elements around and above the audience, transforming linear movement into true 3D envelopment.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

L-ISA mixing engineer Li Zitao worked closely with the artists to realize their spatial audio vision, first setting up a 5.0 surround system in their studio for pre-mixing, then moving to RAC’s L-ISA showroom for further adjustments before final tuning during rehearsals at the venue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Every track sounded remarkably clearer through L-ISA as compared to stereo, with incredibly precise positioning,” notes Li. “This precision opens up creative possibilities that simply don’t exist in traditional mixing.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guest drummer Wang Yu, who performed at the opening night, observed how the technology enhanced rather than overshadowed musical performance: “While other sonic elements swirl around and overhead, the drums keep the rhythmic foundation solid.
