Located just off Oxford Road in the heart of Circle Square, the multi-purpose space is a blank canvas featuring live music, club nights, a member\u2019s lounge with events, and a seven-day-a-week bar open until 4 am and a restaurant. Featuring the latest technology for visually and sonically led entertainment experiences, the sound is delivered via an L-Acoustics A Series system, specified and designed by L-Acoustics UK distributor, Audiotek, which was commissioned to supply AV requirements across the venue\u2019s three main spaces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The team behind Canvas is not new to the entertainment industry, having previously founded two of London\u2019s most prolific music establishments, The Pickle Factory and Oval Space. Christopher Kmiec, Audiotek\u2019s UK Director, explains how excited his team, which includes Projects Manager Ash Attwood and Design Engineer James Bentham, was when the opportunity presented itself to work with the Canvas team on an entirely new space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe had dealt with a number of the team behind Canvas before and were thrilled to work on a full, brand-new venue with them,\u201d Kmiec recalls. \u201cCanvas was a complete new build, in an empty space, with Audiotek delivering sound, lights, and video for the performance room, member\u2019s lounge, and the bar and restaurant areas.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-gallery columns-2 is-cropped wp-block-gallery-1 is-layout-flex wp-block-gallery-is-layout-flex\"><ul class=\"blocks-gallery-grid\"><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_1_ed-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"26016\" data-full-url=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_1_ed.jpg\" data-link=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/?attachment_id=26016\" class=\"wp-image-26016\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_1_ed-1024x683.jpg 1024w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_1_ed-300x200.jpg 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_1_ed-768x512.jpg 768w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_1_ed.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"blocks-gallery-item__caption\">Manchester\u2019s \u2018next-generation\u2019 cultural destination, Canvas, features an L-Acoustics A Series system.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><li class=\"blocks-gallery-item\"><figure><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_2_ed-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" data-id=\"26014\" data-full-url=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_2_ed.jpg\" data-link=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/?attachment_id=26014\" class=\"wp-image-26014\" srcset=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_2_ed-1024x683.jpg 1024w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_2_ed-300x200.jpg 300w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_2_ed-768x512.jpg 768w, \/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/LA_Canvas_2_ed.jpg 1200w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><figcaption class=\"blocks-gallery-item__caption\">To make a real impact on the Manchester scene, Canvas\u2019s performance room features L-Acoustics A15 along with KS21 subs, positioned left and right side of the stage.<\/figcaption><\/figure><\/li><\/ul><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>In the main performance space, the client brief was short and clear, \u201cthey wanted to be as rider-friendly as possible and to make a real impact on the Manchester scene, so everyone knew from the start that the technical infrastructure of the venue would be key to its success,\u201d explains Kmiec.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Audiotek team specified and designed the L-Acoustics system in-house, with A Series fitting the brief perfectly by providing optimum coverage and SPL in a budget-friendly package. \u201cApart from sounding and looking very impressive, the system is also rider friendly, so it ticked all the boxes,\u201d Kmiec continues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final design comprises three <a href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/a15-wide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A15<\/a> and two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/ks21\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">KS21<\/a> subs positioned on the left and right sides of the stage. It is a \u201cfairly simple setup,\u201d according to Kmiec, as being purpose-built, the performance space has good views of the stage from every part of the room, which means a simple L\/R system is ideal. \u201cThe main L-Acoustics arrays also cover the VIP balcony, which was great,\u201d he adds. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/la12x\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LA12X<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/la4x\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">LA4X<\/a> amplified controllers power the entire system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Canvas team was delighted with the results, as Archie McIntosh, one of the founding members at Canvas, commented: \u201cWorking with Audiotek on this project was very easy and, after a series of meetings and discussions on our vision for the venue, they adjusted and perfected the design of the system,\u201d concludes McIntosh. \u201cThe team understood what was required right from the start. On-site, the guys were great. They\u2019re always helpful, and they really put the hours in to ensure everything was done to a \u2018T.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe venue is built to be as flexible as possible, and we needed a system to cope with all our events. From yoga on a Sunday morning to all music types and live acts right through the night, the A Series sounds incredible, and with so much power coming from the system, we will never get complaints from visiting artists.
