Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan residencies\u2014along with a limited engagement by Michael Bubl\u00e9\u2014inaugurate the Las Vegas Strip’s only permanent L-ISA installation<\/em><\/em><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

LAS VEGAS \u2013 June 2022 \u2013<\/strong> The recent opening of the 5,000-capacity Resorts World Theatre<\/a>, operated by Concerts West\/AEG Presents<\/a>, has already hosted residencies by Carrie Underwood, Katy Perry, and Luke Bryan, making the Strip\u2019s newest integrated resort a go-to location for music. Furthermore, what sets it apart from all the other concert venues in Las Vegas\u2019s entertainment mecca\u2014and arguably the world\u2014is its sound. Resorts World Theatre is home to the first fixed install of L-Acoustics L-ISA Immersive Hyperreal Sound technology<\/a> in Las Vegas. More than 200 loudspeakers comprise an immersive aural environment that stands out on the Las Vegas Strip, and as everyone knows, Vegas has seen\u2014and heard\u2014a lot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Montreal-based Sc\u00e9no Plus served as the theatre designer, further overseeing the venue\u2019s technology, while L-Acoustics Certified Provider (CPi) Solotech integrated the 14.1 audio system with design support from the L-Acoustics Application team. The system consists of an L-ISA Scene setup of seven arrays of 14 K2 <\/a>enclosures flown across the stage width, left-right out-fill arrays of 12 Kara<\/a>, plus two center-flown arrays of eight KS28<\/a> subs each. Twenty-four KS21<\/a> subs are located under the stage, and 16 5XT<\/a> five-inch coaxials are positioned across the stage lip, functioning as spatial front-fills thanks to a new L-ISA algorithm. Many A10i Wide <\/a>enclosures provide delay and seven channels of surround for each of the three balconies, with additional A10i found in the lighting booth. A combination of LA12X,<\/a> LA4X,<\/a> and LA2Xi <\/a>amplified controllers drive the system, which also uses the new L-ISA Processor II<\/a>\u2014the device\u2019s first permanent install. Plus, there are 11 P1 processors<\/a> installed that enable bridging of AVB, AES\/EBU, and analog audio with time-aligned redundant signal distribution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe client, in this case, was looking for an advantage, something that would set the venue apart from everything else in Las Vegas, which is not an easy task,\u201d says Fran\u00e7ois Blais, Vice President of Technology and Specialized Equipment at Sc\u00e9no Plus. \u201cWe could have simply tried to increase the quality of the sound, but we wanted to do that and to create a better sound experience. That is what L-ISA can do.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That decision was taken after Blais and his team experienced an L-ISA demo at Solotech\u2019s facility in Montreal. From there, they coordinated with Solotech VP of R&D Fran\u00e7ois \u201cFrankie\u201d Desjardins and L-Acoustics\u2019 Andr\u00e9 Pichette to design and configure the system to best fit the new Resorts World Theatre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A major part of the process onsite was to address the room\u2019s acoustic needs. This included absorptive treatments on the venue\u2019s walls and ceiling and making some architectural adjustments, such as changing the shape of the front edge of the balcony to avoid reflections. \u201cWith 98 speakers in the main system alone, we\u2019re putting a lot of energy into the room, so we had to measure the room\u2019s response carefully,\u201d he explains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What Aaron Beck, Business Development Manager & Senior Engineer at Solotech, the systems integrator on the project, found most notable about the L-ISA implementation was how routine it seemed. It was the firm\u2019s first permanent installation of the system, and he found the process remarkably straightforward, suggesting that L-ISA was becoming as mainstream as conventional sound systems when it comes to installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur live production division had some experience using L-ISA, but this was our first time using the technology on a permanent installation,\u201d he says. \u201cWhat was different this time was that the new installation versions of the A Series speakers were available, replacing the X8 and X12 enclosures for rear surrounds and delays in our previous design. As a result, we were able to reduce the overall count of speakers with the slightly larger A Series, which saved the client some costs. The new L-ISA Processor II is also more powerful and includes the ability to bring an immersive experience even down to the front-fill speakers. It is a fantastic system that provides an exceptionally engaging experience to all listeners in the venue.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Beck added that the installation was aided by L-ISA\u2019s interoperability with AVB networking. \u201cHaving the amplifiers for the main front system on the stage grid directly above the line arrays was extremely beneficial as we didn\u2019t have to have 60 amplifiers in amp room two floors away, reducing a huge amount of cable, conduit, and installation time,\u201d he says. \u201cNetworked audio has become the standard for signal distribution. It provides a simpler solution, sounds amazing, and offers us a fully digital signal path from the console to the amplifiers.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The result has been a truly exceptional experience for everyone. \u201cWhen you\u2019re sitting in the Theatre, you can have a normal conversation with the person next to you even as the music is happening,\u201d says Blais. \u201cThe L-ISA system is about being wide rather than loud. And while this is the seventh project we have done in Las Vegas since 2006, it was our first with L-ISA, and we\u2019re very proud of how it turned out. It\u2019s been wonderful to watch visiting engineers encounter it for the first time and how they discover new ways of making the music come across.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AEG Presents Senior Vice President John Nelson is quick to point out that Resorts World Theatre\u2019s adoption of L-ISA technology is a huge Las Vegas \u201cwin\u201d for the new venue and its patrons. \u201cWhen you have music\u2019s biggest superstars performing in the newest, most technologically advanced theatre on the Las Vegas Strip, the sound system has to be the best in the world,\u201d he says. \u201cL-Acoustics has taken performance audio to a completely different level, treating guests at Resorts World Theatre to a fully immersive audio experience and an ultimate night of entertainment.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
