Syva plays everywhere but definitely plays in Peoria at this beautiful Gothic revival venue where L-Acoustics A10, 5XT, X12, and X8 speakers complete a sound system that adds sonic beauty without interfering with the visual aesthetic<\/em><\/em><\/em> <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

PEORIA, Illinois \u2013 July 2021 \u2013<\/strong> The Scottish Rite Theatre\u2014aka the \u201cScotty\u201d\u2014was built in 1925 as a Masonic cathedral. Recently, the Gothic-styled building underwent a $5 million-plus renovation and now offers downtown Peoria a state-of-the-art performance and event venue. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Scotty encompasses an 800-seat theater, luminous stained-glass windows, a 300-person capacity lower-level ballroom, and more than 10,000 feet of usable space with a full basement kitchen and banquet facility. Everything looks great, but it\u2019s the auditorium that now also sounds great, thanks to an L-Acoustics Syva<\/a> sound system installed earlier this year by the Chicago office of integrator Creative Technology<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cSyva was the perfect solution for audio reinforcement at the Scotty,\u201d says Greg Moore, Installations Project Manager for Creative Technology. \u201cIt had to sound great, which it does, but it also had to disappear. The aesthetics of this project were of paramount importance to the client. We were able to essentially camouflage the Syva, which we ordered in white from L-Acoustics, by installing them in the fluted trim around the sides of the proscenium. We used a combination of the manufacturer\u2019s own mounting solutions and a custom Unistrut bracket to hang them. The slim-yet-powerful Syva form factor is a perfect fit with the venue\u2019s proscenium architecture.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Scotty\u2019s new system comprises one Syva enclosure mounted to each side of the stage, a white Syva Low<\/a> sitting on the stage below each main Syva column, four KS21<\/a> subs in the orchestra pit, and six 5XT<\/a> coaxials spread out across the stage lip as frontfill. In addition, there is a cluster of two A10 Focus<\/a>, and one A10 Wide<\/a> per side as balcony fills, as well as two short-throw X12<\/a> coaxials as near-balcony sidefills, two X8<\/a> speakers as under-balcony sidefills, and two more X12 as under-balcony delay speakers. Six LA4X<\/a> amplified controllers power the entire system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe venue\u2019s acoustics were pretty good to start with, and it has some nice natural diffusion, so there was no need for acoustical treatment,\u201d says Moore. \u201cAnd with the L-Acoustics deployment, we don\u2019t have to push the system to get the kind of impact we need. The Syva themselves are doing only about 40 percent of the work, well supported by the other speakers, and the Syva Low enclosures are a great intermediary between the Syva and the KS21 subs.\u201d The system, he says, covers both the seating area and the frequency spectrum effortlessly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Jenny Parkhurst, Executive Director of Performing Arts at Scotty parent company The KDB Group, says the Syva system is everything they\u2019d hoped for, crediting L-Acoustics and Creative Technology for succeeding in achieving a sound system that satisfies the requirements of modern audiences and professional performers while also maintaining the original architecture of the building and not distracting from the historic interior design.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhile we are not quite open to the general public yet, we’ve had a few test runs of the sound system, and it sounds amazing, far exceeding our expectations!\u201d she attests. \u201cWe appreciate the time and effort taken by Creative Technology to carefully analyze the performance space, listen to our needs, and implement a state-of-the-art sound system that will prove to be the best in our community.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
