This year\u2019s show was no less popular, despite current COVID safety restrictions. Organizer&nbsp;<strong>SIA<\/strong>&nbsp;was quick to adapt, moving this year\u2019s concert to the 25,000-capacity&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dsc.ae\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Dubai Sports City Stadium<\/a>&nbsp;for a socially distanced audience of 6,000. To retain the same energy level and give fans the best experience, the leading regional AV supplier,&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/thetechnology.me\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">THE Technology<\/a>, supplied a substantial L-Acoustics&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/en\/products\/loudspeaker-systems\/k-series-variable-curvature-line-source\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">K Series<\/a>&nbsp;system, ensuring a quality, energetic audio experience for this new audience arena\u2019s ratio and size.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSIA had a big challenge,\u201d says THE Technology Sound Designer and System Engineer,&nbsp;Walid Antar, who worked alongside Front of House engineer&nbsp;Tamer Zouaiby, monitor engineer&nbsp;Andrew Esbergen, and network engineer&nbsp;Sbobo. \u201cThe spectators were seated in an area five times larger than in all previous years. Achieving full coverage with the same great sound as before for 6,000 people in such a big open space presented us with many challenges. We knew the only choice of system was L-Acoustics, and we needed to be very detailed in the design process, ensuring precision in every loudspeaker angle to avoid reflections and to account for the smaller number of people absorbing the energy of the system.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The design also changed almost daily to accommodate new health and safety measures and modifications in the audience seating plan. \u201cBecause of the health and safety restrictions, we weren\u2019t able to bring in external help from L-Acoustics as we would normally do, but by using the manufacturer\u2019s Soundvision software, we were still able to achieve great results,\u201d notes Walid.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The final setup comprised main hangs of 12\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/k2\/\" target=\"_blank\">K2<\/a>\u00a0atop six\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/kara-ii\/\" target=\"_blank\">Kara\u00a0<\/a>per side, with 12 stacks of two Kara atop two\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/sb28\/\" target=\"_blank\">SB28<\/a>\u00a0subs, evenly spaced in front of the stage lip. A further 60 Kara, 12 SB28, and eight\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/sb18\/\" target=\"_blank\">SB18<\/a>\u00a0catered for delays, while stage monitoring comprised two stacks of six Kara atop four SB28 for sidefill, plus 24\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/en\/product\/x15hiq\/\" target=\"_blank\">X15 <\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/x15-hiq\/\" target=\"_blank\">HiQ\u00a0<\/a>along the stage lip. Control was via a total of eight\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/la12x\/\" target=\"_blank\">LA12X\u00a0<\/a>and 27\u00a0<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.l-acoustics.com\/products\/la8\/\" target=\"_blank\">LA8\u00a0<\/a>amplified controllers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Despite the challenges, SIA was impressed by the system\u2019s clarity and the support from THE Technology. \u201cIndeed, without the efforts of everyone involved, this concert would not have been able to go ahead,\u201d says Antar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The audience took the time to congratulate the production team on delivering an amazing experience amid elevated contact restrictions. \u201cSome of the fans worried that being so far from the stage (the back of the venue extends to approximately 150m), that they might not be able to hear everything if they\u2019re in the back,\u201d says Antar. \u201cFortunately, it was quite the contrary.
