Dave Rat comments: In my experience, the worldwide availability combined with the extremely well-maintained vendor-to-vendor consistency make V-DOSC the only system capable of doing what I am trying to achieve : worldwide sonic consistency, even when I cannot carry a system. The way this European tour is structured - headlining back-to-back shows ranging from 30,000 to 120,000 capacities in fields, stadiums and arenas - it became readily apparent that carrying full production would be very cumbersome. The approach I opted for is to carry consoles, monitors, FOH drive and system processors. We have 10 companies based in 7 different countries all supplying systems that fit into a master system design template. I also saw a few vendors come back with SOUNDVISION plots which were extremely useful for the more complex venue coverage issues. I must say that I am impressed by the level of positive cooperation I received and from vendor to vendor.
Once the production aspect was settled, it was a matter of making sure the different sound vendors complied with the production requirements & Dave Rat requirements. There was continuity of a high standard throughout the tour, all the CVE complied with my needs, the venue needs and the needs of V-DOSC. A total of 17 companies supplemented us with L-ACOUSTICS equipment for this tour & I think the Key was universal equipment & a school of high level of understanding with in the CVE's. There were no surprises, during the pre-production or when I arrived on site with the advance team. Having SOUNDVISION helped, a very useful tool. SOUNDVISION showed exactly what Dave Rat, Nick Brizbois, Me and a million or so punters were going to get. And with V-DOSC, when done right, you know your gonna get. I think we got it! The European V-DOSC Partners who provided their V-DOSC systems for the tour are : - in Austria, For Music together with the V-DOSC Partner in Hungary Klemm- in France, CLIP, Impact Evénement and dV-DOSC provider dtbh - in Germany, Satis & Fy - in Italy, Agora - in Spain, High Level Audio - in The Netherlands, StagePro Rentals - and in the UK, Britannia Row Productions together with Delta Sound, Wigwam together with EFX Audio & ALC Florent Bernard, freelance CVE (Radiohead, Peter Gabriel) for the Scotland Murray Field (93 V-DOSC, 18 dV-DOSC, 50 SB218) and Manchester shows (94 V-DOSC, 18 dV-DOSC, 50 SB218) commented: To
design a PA system for a 65,000 audience stadium is not an easy thing
to do, especially for a show like the Red Hot Chili Peppers, knowing
that, as well as having to provide coherent coverage, the system also
needs to deliver sufficient SPLs for the whole audience area. This is
not a common thing to do when you consider that very few artists are
capable of filling up such a space. The SOUNDVISION software developed
by L-ACOUSTICS, has been a tremendous aid for me since during the sound
design phase it allowed me to very quickly validate my approach. With
its high speed performance and the invaluable information that surfaced
from the 3D simulations, I was better able to optimise my sound design.
One of the main assets of this software is the real-time 3D visualisation
which allows the sound designer to make the best decisions even for
the most complex cases. Finally, it was an excellent support tool that
permitted me to present and illustrate my project in the best light.
Thanks to the development team at L-ACOUSTICS for this fabulous tool
which has helped me a lot in the achievement of this project and which,
I am convinced, will do the same for my future projects.
Today, the V-DOSC NETWORK, with over 100 service providers in 40 countries,
is the First Worldwide
Rental Network for International
Touring, providing some 10,000 DOSC enclosures with universal
system compatibility, global training support program, and advanced
predictive models. |
