In Korea, Seoul's Sejong Center for Performing Arts has re-opened its doors after a comprehensive 12-month upgrade of the entire facility. Located in central Seoul, the Sejong Center was the first large-scale performance venue in the country. Taking four years to construct, the performing arts center was officially opened in 1978.

After 25 years of service the facility was in need of extensive modernization, not just in terms of equipment, but also in providing productions that appealed to the general public. The Sejong Center for Performing Arts therefore underwent extensive upgrades to enable it to host a variety of productions ranging from traditional Korean arts to classical, opera and fringe productions.

Seoul's Dreamsound were awarded the contract to provide the main sound reinforcement system as well as installing the complete audio, video and communications infrastructure. After a comprehensive auditioning process Sejong Centre's management chose L-ACOUSTICS as the principle sound reinforcement system. The main system comprises of an array of 14 x dV-DOSC full range two way speaker cabinets and 4 x dV-SUB subwoofers either side of the stage, with the Centre Cluster array consisting of 16 x dV-DOSC. In addition to this an additional 6 x SB118 Subwoofers are installed either side of the stage. Dreamsound's Ki Sun Choi, who was responsible for the entire installation, explains that 'the Main Hall has been subject to extensive refurbishment and renovation. The seating capacity has been reduced from 3,800 to 3,000 while each seat is fitted with a small video screen to provide simultaneous translations for overseas productions. There were also a few architectural issues that needed to be addressed as they had a negative effect on the overall acoustic balance within the auditorium. However, one of the biggest problems with this venue was its size. Adequate coverage was therefore a prime concern. In order to achieve these requirements, the speaker system needed to provide even coverage throughout the auditorium while overcoming the phase and coupling issues that can be associated with venues of this size. This was part of the reason why Sejong's management chose L-ACOUSTICS.' Sejong Center's Main Hall includes two balconies with the second balcony being some distance from the stage. It was therefore necessary to bring the acoustic image closer to those seated in the upper tier by mounting two clusters of four ARCS within the ceiling.

A total of 40 L-ACOUSTICS MTD108a passive two-way speakers were also used throughout the facility. These were incorporated to provide front fill and first balcony delays as well as being integrated within the stage paging and lobby/VIP lounge audio systems. After 12 months of renovations the rejuvenated Sejong Center for Performing Arts, also famed for being the home of the largest pipe organ in Asia, finally opened its doors to the public in early March with a 70-day long re-opening festival.

Their initial hire stock purchase includes 24 x V-DOSC and 16 x SB218 SUBS all powered by L-ACOUSTICS LA amplifiers. The Turnkey system will now line up alongside their existing dV-DOSC, ARCS, MTD, and XT systems.
