EFX AUDIO, an L-ACOUSTICS V-DOSC Network Partner based in Bathgate West Lothian were chosen as the audio supplier for the prestigious 2003 MTV music awards Garden Concert in Princes Street Edinburgh. The show featuring The Flaming Lips, Black Rebel Motor Cycle Club and The Chemical Brothers, was broadcast live to a world wide TV audience estimated to be in the region of 1 billion people.

An audience of around 8000 people watched the show live from the gardens where EFX provided an 8 box per side V-DOSC system flown from a purpose built stage constructed around the permanent Ross Bandstand. A further 6 dV-DOSC were used each side as out fills and the system was completed with 8 SB218 sub bass speakers per side. On stage a pair of 2 ARCS and 2 dV-SUBS were used as L/R side fills. The entire system was powered by L-ACOUSTICS LA48a amplifiers.

“The Ross has an integral concrete amphitheatre which makes it relatively straight forward to cover audio wise. The front of house system is always fairly modest for this venue as the audience is mostly contained in a compact high bowl, although the front of house mix position is some 2 metres above the rear most point of the audience. We install systems quite frequently at the Ross although this show was quite unique as we had to reposition our usual hanging points to accommodate the MTV video screens. However, using V-DOSC and dV-DOSC with the proprietary ARRAY design software we were able to work around this quickly and effectively to design cover for the entire audience geometry with a relatively small system, and as usual without the need for any additional delay systems”.

“Bill Laing from EFX was the Certified V-DOSC Engineer (CVE) for the event, and his input into the overall design was fundamental to the great success of the show”.

Radim Janousek, Sales Manager, explains that T-SERVIS, established in 1992, is today the most prominent rental company in the Czech Republic providing over 1 500 events annually. Their friendly team was at L-ACOUSTICS premises in January for a 3 day training animated by Paul Bauman, Technical Support Director at
L-ACOUSTICS.

As T-SERVIS has always focused on technical support for different events, Paul Bauman was impressed by the level of technical expertise of the team.

Right after the training, their dV-DOSC system was immediately used in various events, and went on tour with ILLUSTATOSPHERE, the well-known Czech group.

A major concert recently took place in the famous Lucerna concert hall in Prague, with their V-DOSC system.
