News / L-ACOUSTICS KIVA FOR LEADING NEW BEIJING THEATRE

November 2008

The Reignwood Theater, an intimate, top quality performance space, has opened in Beijing with an L-ACOUSTICS KIVA ultra compact line source array system installed in the auditorium, to critical acclaim from theatre staff, musicians and audience alike.

The KIVA system was supplied and installed by L-ACOUSTICS’ Chinese distributor Rightway Audio Consultants, which won the tender for the sound reinforcement system earlier this year. The company installed six KIVA cabinets per side as the main front of house system, with four 115XT HiQ stage monitors as infill speakers; ten 8XT compact coaxial speakers for sound effects and four 12XT coaxial speakers for foldback. The system is being powered and controlled from seven LA4 amplified controller racks, linked and monitored via L-ACOUSTICS’ NETWORK MANAGER software.

The space, which can be configured as a 198-seat theatre or a banqueting hall accommodating 100, with additional seating in boxes on the second floor level, has employed top quality products throughout its construction, providing a VIP experience for all audience members. It will specialise in performances by leading artistes, high-class product launches, corporate events and opulent banquets with musical accompaniment.

The Reignwood Theater’s grand opening was held in the run-up to the Olympics Closing Ceremony and was attended by the Ceremony’s director Yimou Zhang plus dignitaries from the Beijing Organizing Committee for the Games and leading Chinese artistes. As a finale, word-famous tenor Plácido Domingo and Chinese soprano Zuying Song performed The Flame of Love which also featured in the Closing Ceremony. The theatre aims to be a bridge between eastern and western cultures, and has consequently appointed Domingo as arts consultant for both the new venue and the Training Center of Asian Youth Artists. Domingo, who is said to be keen to support Chinese culture, will offer artistic advice to both organisations.
